I was a college student at NYU when I first came to the Village Church, back when it met at PS41. Scot Sherman was the pastor who came and left, with a fitting tribute song written by Annie Quick of Stickman Jones. We sang songs by David and Chris. Sarah was this beautiful woman who played piano; I wanted to be like her! Tom Cannon and his wife, Dawn, were transplants, raising their kids here. Now a mother of four myself, I look back and wonder how they did it — how they sacrificed much, loved much, spent so much time listening and being faithful to the faith-weary like me.

As a college student, I didn’t know many of the leaders by face but only by name. Now, as an adult, I can appreciate the labor of love and faith called The Village Church. I understand now the struggle for family/work balance and how to lay down my life and follow Christ amidst it all.

Thank you for being there and speaking the truth of Jesus to me when I so desperately needed it. Traveling mercies, all…
